2009 Pro Wrestling Awards: Best PPV of the Year

Posted by Shane H. On January - 10 - 2010
A wrestling promotion's pay-per-view is when we get the best that the company can offer. Well, at least that is supposed to be what happens. It is not always the case, especially when it comes to the big two: WWE and TNA. There were some bright spots in 2009 when it came to shelling out some cash for a pay-per-view. Which is the best, though? That is what I am hoping you help decide. Ed. Note: Keep in mind that the choices are not ordered in any specific way.   1. Turning Point, TNA This pay-per-view will be remembered for the final two matches that ...

2009 Pro Wrestling Awards: Worst Wrestler of the Year

Posted by Shane H. On January - 9 - 2010
We always look at the best, but to switch things up, how about we look at the worst? Wrestling isn't always pretty and this year wasn't any different than others. Instead of separating gender here, I'll just throw the garbage out together. Who was 2009's worst wrestler?   1. Hornswoggle, WWE I'm not going to go by height but let's get the little fellow out first. He once was called Mr. McMahon's illegitimate child but was later found out to be Finlay's son. Now, the "little bastard" is running around with the big boys in Shawn Michaels and Triple H, DX. Chavo Guerrero had the unfortunate ...
There was a time when TNA was the talk of the town, twice in fact. There was the time when its X Division was superior to its heavyweight, and then we were lucky enough to see quality women wrestling thanks to their Knockouts. Currently, however, TNA has relegated its X Division to the outhouse, only showcasing those men when it seems there is five to seven minutes to fill on a pay-per-view card. The X Division champion, Amazing Red, before Monday, hadn’t been on television in over a month. As for the women, there are still quality wrestlers there, but since the departure ...

2009 Pro Wrestling Awards: Female Wrestler of the Year

Posted by Shane H. On January - 7 - 2010
They are smart, sexy, and beautiful. They can also kick ass. No, I'm not talking about the WWE Divas, I'm talking about female wrestlers in general. Wrestling is not just for the fellows. The fairer sex gets down, as well. Sometimes, evident by some TNA Knockout matches, the women put on matches that are better than the guys. Let's cut all the formalities out of the way and get to business. Who was the best female wrestler of 2009? 1. Michelle McCool, WWE She's the longest-reigning champion in all of the WWE. Yes, she might be "boring" on the microphone and dating the Undertaker, but ...

2009 Pro Wrestling Awards: Wrestling Brand/Promotion of the Year

Posted by Shane H. On January - 2 - 2010
The mainstream wrestling landscape in America isn't exactly setting the world on fire, especially with the top two. Still, wrestling is going (not exactly strong but still going). Who's given the viewing public the best bang for their buck (Young Buck pun there)? It's up to you to decide the best brand/promotion for 2009.   No. 1) WWE RAW The flagship show for WWE is the highest-rated wrestling program on television. The top names of the WWE call RAW home. John Cena, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton, and Maryse are just a few of the top stars on Monday nights. There ...

2009 Pro Wrestling Awards: Tag Team of the Year

Posted by Shane H. On January - 1 - 2010
If you haven't already voted for the 2009 Newcomer of the Year, do so now by clicking here . In the world of professional wrestling it is not always what you do individually but what you accomplish as a team. Tag team wrestling has been an integral part of the wrestling world and has provided fans with the chance to see great teams like Legion of Doom, The Hardyz, Edge and Christian, The Dudleyz, and the Steiner Brothers, just to name a few. While the tag team wrestling scene hasn't been that great as of late in the WWE, TNA and ...

2009 Pro Wrestling Awards: Newcomer of the Year

Posted by Shane H. On January - 1 - 2010
This wraps up my first year as community leader of the B/R Wrestling Community. The previous head honcho, Ron Johnson, did an awesome job with his end of the year awards so I have no shame in using his model to do the 2009 edition. This piece will feature the 2009 Newcomer of the Year.   No. 1) Sheamus, ECW/RAW You can't do newcomer of the year without speaking about the man who has sparked a whole lot of debate in the WWE Universe when he became world champion. Sheamus came up on ECW back on June 30 and had feuds with Goldust and ...
First off, I am extremely upset because after announcing this contest several weeks ago, I had an article with over 500 reads and 92 comments where many gave their choices of stars they would write about. Then, the deadline for articles comes and goes and the turnout is abysmal. More abysmal than a Jillian Hall title run, folks. Anyway, there were a total of six pieces submitted. It is now up to you, the readers, to choose who you think did the best job of making a case for their chosen superstars. If you have not read the articles, or care to ...

The Wrestling Rumor Mill Returns for the Holidays

Posted by Shane H. On December - 18 - 2009
It's been a while, but I'm back with another installation of the only rumors you should ever believe. I constantly have to leave my phone off the hook due to the nonstop ringing from those eager to be in the know. If you don't think my information is the best around, then you are as worthless as a David Arquette title reign.   Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Unless you've been hiding under a rock you know about the big three-hour live Impact in January. Word on the street is, after last week's mudwrestling segment between The Beautiful People, TNA President Dixie Carter plans on ...

Randy Orton’s Venom Isn’t Lethal in a PG-Era WWE

Posted by Shane H. On December - 16 - 2009
At one point, there was a man in the WWE who was on top of the world in terms of buzz. He delivered the "punt heard around the world" to his boss, and water coolers were frequented to discuss the next amazing act the Viper would take. Yes, Randy Orton, at one point this year, was the toast of the town. Even when he was doing wrong, he could do no wrong. Unfortunately, things didn't stay in Mr. Orton's favor. Whatever momentum he once held when he was being ruthless and aggressive, withered away when he would immediately switch to a coward. What ...
