Be a Star Ambassadors The Jan. 25 episode of the underrated Total Divas was a poignant example of the trauma young women today face regarding body issues. Upon seeing her face on the side of a WWE production truck, Eva Marie remarked to Cameron that she thought it was ugly. At first, Cameron brushed it off as diva behavior. However, as the episode progressed, Cameron realized her friend’s self-image was a deeply rooted and ongoing issue. On a shopping excursion, Cameron found Eva Marie collapsed in a changing room due to the effects of starving herself. Fortunately, Cameron was aware of a therapy ...
Total Divas Rules The current season of Total Divas is not short on drama, and it is wonderful to see the compelling personalities in the WWE Divas division carve their own place in the entertainment landscape and prove they have what it takes to engage television audiences. Total Divas is as good or better than any reality show on the air. The stakes are always high, as no less than marriages and careers are in constant jeopardy. For example, on the Oct. 5 telecast, Cameron—who had just made the decision to leave the main WWE roster to go back to developmental to ...

WWE News: Alberto Del Rio’s Firing Destined for Hypocrisy

Posted by Stephen Sonneveld On August - 15 - 2014
I was intrigued by Jason Powell’s ProWrestling.net article, “Strange Update on Alberto Del Rio” which stated that the official WWE website tweeted: “(1/2) @VivaDelRio is responsible for his own actions. If you’re angry at anyone, be angry at Alberto. (2/2) There’s no excuse for a pro athlete not to conduct themselves in a professional manner.” Powell wrote: This is a bizarre move by WWE that makes me wonder if Del Rio is still with the company or if someone went into business for themselves. It's not like the company to issue a statement in this manner let alone plug the Twitter address ...

WWE News: CM Punk Leaves WWE, Just Like Stone Cold Steve Austin Did Before

Posted by Stephen Sonneveld On January - 30 - 2014
“So serious About the stuff we lack Dwell upon our memories But there are no facts”  -Minor Threat, “Salad Days”   As of this writing, all the media knows for certain about CM Punk’s departure from WWE prior to the Jan. 27 Raw is that he met with Vince McMahon and left thereafter. Neither the Straight Edge Superstar nor the promotion have issued a formal comment, leaving fans and editors to speculate as to why. Without formal comment, reports of Punk “leaving” WWE are also speculative. Punk’s contract is set to expire in July, but there is no confirmation from either party that this departure concludes the business ...

WWE News: Hulk Hogan’s Enduring Image Used on Merchandise That Disrespects Him

Posted by Stephen Sonneveld On September - 20 - 2013
The image of iconic wrestler Hulk Hogan is being used to promote no less than three current WWE products: The Top 25 Rivalries in Professional Wrestling DVD, The Best of WWE at Madison Square Garden DVD, and the upcoming video game WWE 2K14. This would not be so unusual if the Hall of Famer were not currently under contract with another wrestling promotion, TNA.  When news of Hogan's presence in the video game broke in August, Hogan's friend and longtime collaborator, TNA producer Eric Bischoff, took to Twitter to explain, "WWE is simply utilizing tradmarks/assets [sic] they currently own in a repackaged ...

WWE News: Corporate Lashes out at Critics with Nothing but Sound and Fury

Posted by Stephen Sonneveld On March - 5 - 2012
On the March 2nd SmackDown, Eve and Natalya wrestled an aggressive contest which, in its brief time, told a good story punctuated by a clever finish, the kind of which we don't see much of anymore.   In disservice to this effort was the insipid commentary from announcers Michael Cole, Booker T. and, to a lesser extent, Josh Matthews, that did nothing to promote audience investment.   Character-wise, Eve's entrance did a great job of showing her change in attitude to the fans, who heeled on her throughout. This was only briefly mentioned by the announcers. Natalya's crestfallen reaction to defeat could have ...
