Born Michael Sean Coulthard on Dec. 8, 1968, in Syracuse, N.Y., Cole began his career as a journalist working for CBS Radio. His first high-profile assignment was covering Michael Dukakis' presidential campaign back in 1988. He continued to work at CBS for nine more years.
